PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

iPad 3 launches, still not the gaming threat it could be

Apple just wrapped up its iPad 3 launch, although it is now called plain-old "iPad." The third-generation iPad is packed with quad core technology and a lovely retina display, with games a natural way to show off its chops.

While there were two games shown off, a new Infinity Blade title called Dungeons from Epic and Namco showing off an Ace Combat-alike called Sky Gamblers (which has been out for some time, this must be an iPad 3 specific update) - there was less of a focus than I expected, although they had a lot to cram in.

Despite the fact that iPad 3 will sell more in one day than the Vita will in its first year, I don't think gamers need be overly worried, yet. However, Apple is clearly prodding a stick in the gaming hornet's nest and expect plenty more news from them in 2012.

The Infinity Blade Dungeons trailer goes all Diablo, or Ruin on your ass

Apple also had to cram in the new Apple TV box, other creative apps, and it did say 2012 has just started. But even so, with all that technology, you would have expected Apple to demo some games that would really shake the gaming market. I think Sony and MS just breathed a large sigh of relief.

Not quite core gaming is it?
